The fear is always there, and you don't know why

You might know the feeling: A sinking sensation in your stomach. Racing heart, even though nothing has happened. The feeling of being about to faint, even though you are just sitting on the sofa. The constant thought that something terrible could happen – without you being able to say exactly what.

Perhaps you avoid certain situations: crowds, enclosed spaces, the phone, the doorbell, conversations with superiors. Perhaps you plan your life around your fears – and your life is becoming increasingly restricted. Perhaps you suffer from panic attacks that seemingly come out of thin air. Perhaps you wake up at night with the fear of suffocating or dying, even though you know there is no danger.

Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental illnesses. They are not a sign of weakness or flaw of character – they are a signal from your nervous system. Your brain is in a state of permanent red alert and can no longer distinguish between real and imagined danger.

The good news: Your brain can learn to return to a state of safety. Neurofeedback is an effective method for reducing anxiety – drug-free, without side effects, and with long-lasting results.

What happens in the brain during anxiety?

Anxiety is a natural and important reaction. It protects us from danger and ensures that we can react quickly in hazardous situations. The problem: In an anxiety disorder, this reaction is misdirected. Your brain reacts with red alert even when there is no real threat.

Neurobiologically, this manifests as an overactive amygdala – the fear center in your brain – and a weakened connection to the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for control and calming. The consequence: Your brain is constantly on alert. Every stimulus is interpreted as a potential threat. Your body reacts with stress symptoms – racing heart, sweating, shaking, shortness of breath. And your thoughts spin in an endless loop of worry and apprehension.

This is exactly where neurofeedback comes in. It trains your brain to calm the overactive areas and strengthen the connection between the fear center and the control center. You learn to bring your brain back into a state of safety.

How neurofeedback helps with anxiety disorders and fears

Neurofeedback is not a medication that suppresses anxiety. It is a training that helps your brain to self-regulate. We measure your brain activity and give you feedback in real-time on how your brain is working. You learn to strengthen the frequencies that provide relaxation and safety – and to reduce those responsible for alert status and anxiety.

This is not a cognitive restructuring where you have to consciously redirect your thoughts. It is neurobiological training. Your brain simply learns to return to a calm state – without you having to actively control it.

Many clients report that anxiety decreases noticeably after just a few sessions. They feel calmer, more composed, and safer. They are able to handle situations again that they previously avoided. Panic attacks become rarer and weaker. The feeling of constantly being on red alert subsides.

What neurofeedback can achieve for anxiety

The impact of neurofeedback on anxiety disorders is diverse and well-documented.

It can reduce overall anxiety. Many clients report feeling calmer and more composed overall. The constant tension gives way to inner peace. Daily life becomes easier because anxiety no longer overshadows everything.

It can prevent or weaken panic attacks. You sense earlier when a panic attack is coming on and can take counter-measures. The attacks become rarer, shorter, and less intense.

It can reduce avoidance behavior. Because the anxiety decreases, you can once again handle situations you previously avoided. Your life expands, rather than shrinks.

It can reduce physical anxiety symptoms. Racing heart, sweating, shaking, shortness of breath – these symptoms become less intense and less frequent. Your body calms down.

It can break negative thought spirals. The spinning thoughts, where you constantly circle around the same anxieties, become less frequent. You learn to consciously direct your thoughts.

It can improve your overall quality of life. Less anxiety means more freedom, more energy, more joy in life. You can participate in life again, rather than just managing it.

Biofeedback as a supplement – keeping an eye on your body

Anxiety is not just a matter of your brain activity – it is also a matter of your body's regulation. That's why we often recommend a combination of neurofeedback and biofeedback for anxiety disorders.

With biofeedback, we measure your heart rate variability, muscle tension, or skin conductance. You see in real-time how your body reacts to stress – and you learn to consciously regulate it. Breathing exercises, relaxation methods, mental imagery – you find out what works for you to calm your nervous system.

The combination of neurofeedback and biofeedback is particularly effective for anxiety disorders because it trains both your brain and your body. This is important because anxiety is a phenomenon that shows up in both areas.

How your training works

Step 1: Test session (up to 60 minutes, €150 plus VAT)

We get to know each other, discuss your anxieties, and measure your brain activity. I will show you how your brain works and where the imbalances lie that lead to your anxieties. You will find out which frequencies dominate in your brain and why your brain may have difficulty returning to a calm state.

Step 2: Individual training plan

Based on the measurement results, we develop a training plan tailored exactly to your needs. For generalized anxiety disorder, we train different areas than for social anxiety or panic disorder. You will receive clear goals and milestones.

Step 3: Regular sessions (75–90 minutes, €178.50 incl. VAT)

Each session begins with ergonomic and cognitive preparation – movement, posture optimization, sensory activation. This prepares your brain optimally for the neurofeedback. If necessary, we add biofeedback for body regulation.

Initial noticeable changes – less tension, more composure, less panic – are often apparent after just a few sessions. Lasting, stable effects usually develop after a longer training period.
