What your desk has to do with your brain

You sit all day. Maybe in the office, maybe at home, maybe at school or university. Your head is tilted forward, your shoulders are hunched, your back is rounded – and your brain is struggling. It gets less oxygen, blood flow is reduced, it is constantly in survival mode because your posture signals to your nervous system: Danger. Tension. Stress.

Most people underestimate how much their posture affects their brain performance. Your spine is not just a support system – it is an information highway. Every misalignment alters the signals reaching your brain. And that has consequences: concentration problems, brain fog, fatigue, emotional instability.

This is exactly where our approach comes in. Before starting with neurofeedback or biofeedback, we prepare your brain with targeted movement sessions. Because your brain does not learn in isolation – it learns within the body. And a body that moves well and is ergonomically aligned has a higher-performing brain.

Why movement before neurofeedback is crucial

Most neurofeedback centers operate traditionally: you sit down, connect the sensors, and train on a screen. That is not wrong – but it is not complete. Because your brain is not a computer that functions registry-independent of your body. Your brain activity changes when you move. Your circulation improves. Your neuroplasticity increases. Your focus becomes sharper.

That’s why we start every session with a short movement unit. This is not an optional extra, but an essential part of our training approach. We use targeted exercises that activate your brain – specifically the areas we are about to train.

Gross motor skills are where we begin. You do exercises that improve your stability, body tension, and orientation in space. This wakes up your brain, brings it into an alert state, and activates the networks responsible for coordination and attention.

Then come fine motor tasks. Exercises that challenge your precision, timing, and dexterity. This trains the connection between your hands and your brain – a connection that is often neglected in everyday life, but is crucial for your cognitive performance.

Only after this does the actual neurofeedback begin. Your brain is now optimally prepared: blood is flowing, it is activated, and it is ready to learn.

Posture and ergonomics – the underestimated foundation

Your posture affects your mental state – this is not esotericism, but measurable reality. When you sit with a rounded back and your head tilted forward, your chest cavity constricts. Your breathing becomes shallower. Your diaphragm cannot expand fully. The result: less oxygen in the brain, less energy, less clarity.

And it gets worse: Your posture signals to your nervous system that you are in a dangerous situation. A slouched posture is evolutionarily linked to threat and insecurity – and your body responds accordingly: stress hormones are released, your fight-or-flight system is activated, your digestion is shut down.

This happens to many people continuously. All day long. And they don't even realize it.

That is why we integrate ergonomics into our training. We show you how to set up your workstation optimally. We teach you exercises that allow you to improve your posture in everyday life. We train your core muscles so you can sit more upright – without effort.

The result: You breathe deeper, you think clearer, you feel more stable. And the neurofeedback that follows is much more effective.

The Melillo Method – Inspiration for our approach

Our approach is inspired by the work of Dr. Robert Melillo, a world-leading expert on neuroplasticity and childhood brain development. Melillo demonstrated that many developmental and regulatory disorders arise from a disrupted connection between the brain hemispheres – and that targeted movement, balance, and sensory exercises can restore this connection.

We use these principles for our training – for children and adults alike. We combine functional exercises, balance training, and sensory stimuli to activate your brain and strengthen its connections.

The special thing about it: These exercises are not only effective, they are also fun. They challenge your body without overwhelming you. You immediately feel how your brain and body connect – and how this impacts your mood, clarity, and energy.

What the movement units look like in practice

In practice, it looks like this: You arrive for your session, and we don't start with the sensors right away. Instead, you do a short movement unit tailored to you. This might be balance training on unstable surfaces. Or exercises with a functional trainer. Or coordination tasks that challenge your brain. Or sensory activation with music and rhythm.

You will be guided to mindfully feel your body – and you will be surprised at how much you have overlooked until now. The exercises are not exhausting, but rather like a little workout for your brain. And they work: you enter neurofeedback with a more awake, more present feeling.

Who is this brain training with movement suitable for?

This approach is suitable for all adults who want to improve their brain performance – especially individuals who sit a lot and suffer from tension or posture issues. It helps with concentration disorders and brain fog, chronic stress and fatigue, tension and back pain, emotional dysregulation and mood swings.

This training is also a valuable tool for professionals and executives to increase their performance and stay healthy in the long term. And for parents who want to train with their children, there are special family-oriented units.

Brain training with movement in Berlin-Grunewald
